About

About Boxing Arcade

Boxing Arcade builds original boxing-themed HTML5 arcade games, publishes them free on boxingarcade.xyz, and writes about how they work.

What this site is

Boxing Arcade is a browser gaming site with two halves that support each other. The first is a catalogue of thirty original boxing arcade games, all of which we designed and built, and all of which run in your browser with no download, no plugin and no account. The second is an editorial library explaining the mechanics underneath them — how punch timing works, why a combo meter decays, what a difficulty rating actually changes.

We started it because arcade boxing is a genuinely interesting design space that almost nobody writes about carefully. The three-phase punch — wind-up, active frames, recovery — is one of the cleanest teaching mechanics in all of game design, and the games that use it well are a pleasure to get better at. That is the thing we are trying to make and to document.

How the games are made

Every game on this site is written from scratch in plain JavaScript on an HTML5 canvas. There is no game engine, no framework, and no third-party runtime. The thirty games share one engine of our own — the files in /js/game/ — which handles the loop, input, collision, audio, scoring and state, so that individual games can focus on what makes them different from each other.

All of the artwork is drawn procedurally by that engine rather than imported. The fighters, the ring, the bags, the targets and the arenas are Canvas paths generated at runtime, which is why the whole catalogue downloads in kilobytes rather than megabytes and why everything scales cleanly from a phone to a large monitor. Every sound effect is synthesised in the browser with the Web Audio API — there are no audio files anywhere on this site.

Originality

Everything here is our own work. The fighters, names, nicknames, fighting styles, arenas, tournaments and trophies are all invented. Nothing on this site recreates, adapts, references or is modelled on any existing game, any real boxer, any real promotion, sanctioning body or event. We do not use licensed characters, licensed music, licensed sound effects, screenshots of other games, or artwork we did not make.

The boxing here is arcade boxing: stylised, fast, and deliberately non-graphic. There is no blood, no injury detail and no attempt at realistic damage. A knockdown is a fighter lying down and a count.

What we publish

Each game has a page that documents it properly: what it does, how to control it, how the scoring works, what its difficulty rating actually means in tuning terms, and honest tips for getting better at it. Alongside those, we publish longer guides about arcade boxing mechanics in general.

We try hard to keep the documentation and the code in agreement. The numbers quoted on a game page — reaction windows, recovery times, multipliers, health carry-over percentages — are the numbers in the source. When we change a game's balance, we update its page.

Our content standards

We do not invent statistics, studies, expert quotes, reviews, ratings, rankings or player counts. We have no way to measure how many people play a game, so we never display a number claiming to. Where a card is labelled “Featured”, that means we chose it editorially, and we say so. Where a game is labelled “New”, that is calculated from its real release date.

There is no global leaderboard on this site and there never will be one without a real backend to support it honestly. Your best scores are stored in your own browser and go nowhere else.

Who runs it

Boxing Arcade is made by a small independent team who build the games and write the guides. Editorial content is published under the name Alex Carter, which is an editorial persona for the team rather than a separate individual — we say so plainly on the author page rather than implying a credential nobody holds.

How the site is funded

Boxing Arcade is free to play and intends to be supported by advertising. Advertising slots on this site are clearly labelled, placed between content sections, and kept away from game controls so that nothing can be clicked by accident. We do not disguise adverts as gameplay elements, and we never ask anyone to click one. The disclaimer and privacy policy set this out in full.

Technology

The site is entirely static: HTML, CSS, vanilla JavaScript, Canvas, Web Audio and localStorage. There is no backend, no database and no server-side code. It can be hosted on any static host. That is a deliberate choice — it keeps the site fast, keeps it cheap to run, and means there is no server collecting anything about you.
